I felt this overwhelming moment of panic and foreboding as I peered down at my dash to see the service engine soon light staring back up at me. What do I do? How soon is soon? When it's convenient soon, or ASAP soon? And what is that supposed to mean? That's a pretty vague description of something that's wrong. They should have a triage light. Maybe with different colours. Service Engine Soon in green could mean, "Don't worry, just get it looked at when you have the time." Yellow could mean, "Maybe you should call your mechanice at your earliest convenient time". And REd could mean, "Um, pull over before your engine explodes and call a tow truck". There, then I would have a better idea of the severity and time sensitiveness of the warning on my dash.
Each time I turn on the car, I hope against hope that the light will not stay on. But alas, it does. Glowing like an ember that refuses to die. And so, in half an hour or so I will see if my mechanic has any spots open today, or if it can wait till Monday...

Well, if you maintain your car, chances are it's just a sensor or something that needs to be replaced. if you don't take care of your car, the sooner your mechanic looks at it the better, i'm guessing! I'll bet it's just something little - here's hoping!
