Well, let's see... We moved into a nice little duplex a couple of weeks ago. It's the largest place we've had thus far. We even have a big multipurpose play room in the basement. The kids like it, mostly because that's where all the toys are.
Perhaps the biggest news at the moment is the end of my tenure as stay-at-home dad. On Tuesday I started a new job. I'm now a maintenance man at Boardwalk Rental Communities. Basically, people have problems with their suites, and I fix 'em. So far it's been mostly plumbing related. I did learn how the re-key a lock though, that was pretty cool. It's amazing how one looks at something differently when one knows what's going on in the hidden inner workings of that something (I'm talking about the locks). Right now I'm in "training" which could be translated as "call me if you have a problem". Most of the stuff I can figure out on my own so that's not so bad.
The last two days I was breezing by getting stuff done until I hit a bit of a roadblock. Yesterday, someone's kitchen sink was leaking. No prob. But upon closer inspection... big problem. I ended up spending two hours and having to turn off the hot water for the whole building. Today, I was firing along, until this time someone's bathroom sink was leaking. It was a small leak, but a big headache. I ended up busting some really old corroded pipes, which although I did break them, I'm assured that it wasn't really my fault... they had it coming. Anyway, it turned into four hours, having to call someone in to help, having to drive to a different site to pick up some parts, not actually having the right parts and in the end having to invent a new part to do the job. Ahhhh, the life of a maintenance man.
It's not where I thought I'd be at this point, but it's not that bad. The only hard part for me is how much I make. Not enough for us to live on, which is hard, but better than what I had with EI. There are many lessons that God is teaching me through this time, and I think I'm starting to learn them. Perhaps I'll talk about them in a subsequent post. If you've read this far, you're probably waiting for me to end...
