It's a lot easier to "appear" to be doing all the right things than it is to actually do them. In fact, it seems that often times the people that are doing the right thing don't seem like they are doing the right thing. That's because they are actually doing the right thing instead of making it look like they are. The first son wasn't smart, because even though he changed his mind and did what he was asked, he didn't make sure his dad knew about it. The second son said he would, but didn't. When it gets done, who will the father think did it? (At least until he finds out otherwise). But God doesn't want us to look like we are doing the right thing, he just wants us to do it. Is that too much to ask?
